The perimeter of the KBP triangle is 85 cm. The KB side is 10 cm less than the BP side, and the KB side is 12 cm larger than the KB side. Find the length of the BP side.

Given:

Perimeter △ KВР – 85 cm;

KВ -? less ВР by 10 cm;

KР -? more CV by 12 cm;

BP -? cm.

Solution:

Let’s apply the method of solution through the equation.

Let the required side of the triangle BP equal x cm.Then the side of the KВ, which is less than the BP by 10 cm, is equal to (x – 10) cm.The side of the KP, which is greater than the side of the KB by 12 cm, will be equal to (x – 10 + 12) = ( x + 2) cm.

Using the data that the perimeter of the triangle is 85 cm, we compose the equation:

x + x – 10 + x + 2 = 85;

3x = 85 + 8;

3x = 93;

x = 93: 3;

x = 31 (cm) – side length BP.

Answer: BP = 31 cm.
