The perimeter of the parallelogram is 26. One side of the parallelogram is 5 cm larger than the other. Find the smaller side of the parallelogram.
Let a parallelogram ABCD be given, the perimeter of which is 26 cm.Let its smaller side x cm, larger x + 5 cm.
The perimeter of the parallelogram is:
p = 2 * (AB + BC).
In our case:
p = 2 * (x + 5 + x) = 26.
Let’s solve the equation:
4x + 10 = 26
4x = 16
x = 4
Answer: the smaller side of the parallelogram is 4 cm.
