The perimeter of the parallelogram is 26. One side of the parallelogram is 5 larger than the other. Find the smaller side of the parallelogram.

Let x be the smaller side of the parallelogram, then the second side (x + 5). According to the condition of the problem, the perimeter * = 26.
Let’s compose and solve the equation:
2x + 2 (x + 5) = 26
2x + 2x + 10 = 26
4x = 26-10
4x = 16
x = 16: 4
x = 4
Note: P = 2a + 2b OR (a + b) 2
Answer: the smaller side of the parallelogram = 4
