The perimeter of the parallelogram is 48 cm. Find the sides of the parallelogram if one side is 2 cm larger than the other.

In order to find the smaller side of the parallelogram, we will compose and solve equations. To compose the equation, we will apply the formula to find the perimeter.

We know that the perimeter of a parallelogram is 48 cm. It is also known that one side of a parallelogram is 2 cm larger than the other.

Let us denote by the variable x cm – the smaller side of the parallelogram, then the larger side can be written as (x + 2) cm.

P = 2 (a + b);

2 (x + (x + 2)) = 48;

x + x + 2 = 48: 2;

2x + 2 = 24;

2x = 24 – 2;

2x = 22;

x = 22: 2;

x = 11 cm is the length of the smaller side, and 11 + 2 = 13 cm is the length of the larger side of the parallelogram.
