| In a parallelogram, the opposite sides are equal in pairs.
Let x cm be the length of one side of the parallelogram, then (x + 5) cm is the length of the second side.
The perimeter of a parallelogram is equal to the sum of the lengths of all its sides:
P = x + x + (x + 5) + (x + 5) = 4x + 10.
From the condition it is known that the perimeter of the parallelogram is 50 cm, so we write:
4x + 10 = 50.
Let’s solve the equation:
4x = 50 – 10;
4x = 40;
x = 40: 4;
x = 10.
The length of one side of the parallelogram is x = 10 cm.
Let’s calculate the length of the second side:
10 + 5 = 15 cm.
Answer: 2 sides 10 cm and 2 sides 15 cm.
