The perimeter of the quadrilateral abcd is 42 cm, calculate the length of its sides ab, if the other sides are larger than ab by 3 cm, by 4 cm, and by 5 cm?

Let x be the side of AB in the quadrilateral ABCD, so the second side (we represent it as BC) of the quadrilateral is equal to X + 3 (by condition it is 3 cm larger), the third side (we represent it as CD) is equal to X + 4 (by condition it is 4 cm larger), and the fourth side (we represent it as AD) is equal to X + 5 (by condition it is 5 cm larger). By the condition of the problem, the perimeter of the quadrangle is 42 cm.Let’s compose and solve the equation
To find the perimeter of a quadrilateral, add all its 4 sides:
AB + BC + CD + AD = P
Let’s substitute our values:
x + (x + 3) + (x + 4) + (x + 5) = 42
And let’s solve the equation:
4x + 12 = 42
4x = 42-12
4x = 30
x = 30: 4
x = 7.5
Since AB is x, then AB = X = 7.5 (centimeters)
Answer: 7.5 centimeters.
