The perimeter of the rectangle is 24 cm. One side of this rectangle is 2 cm longer

The perimeter of the rectangle is 24 cm. One side of this rectangle is 2 cm longer than the other. Find the length of each side of this rectangle.

1) Find the first side of the rectangle. Let’s compose an equation according to the condition of the problem, where:

X is the length of the first side;

X + 2 is the length of the second side;

24 is the perimeter of the rectangle.

(X + X + 2) * 2 = 24;

4X + 4 = 24;

4X = 24 – 4;

4X = 20;

X = 20/4;

X = 5 cm.

2) Find out the length of the second side of the rectangle if it is known that it is 2 cm longer than the first.

5 + 2 = 7 cm.

Answer: The length of the first two parallel sides is 5 cm, and the length of the second parallel sides is 7 cm.
