The perimeter of the rectangle is 24 cm, the width of the rectangle is 5 cm. What is the area of this rectangle?

Let’s compose an equation for the formula to determine the perimeter of a rectangle, and find its length, provided that P = 24 cm and the width is 5 cm.

The sum of all sides of such a figure, the opposite dimensions of which are equal, is calculated by the formula:

P = 2a + 2b.

2a + 2 * 5 = 24.

We leave the variable to the left, and transfer the resulting product to the right side of the equation, changing the sign in front of it to the opposite:

2a = 24 – 10 = 14.

The second factor is the quotient of the first.

Therefore: a = 14: 2 = 7 cm.

The area corresponds to:

S = a * b = 7 * 5 = 35 cm².
