| It is known from the condition that the perimeter of the rectangle is 32 cm. It is also known that its width is 6 cm shorter than the length. In order to find the sides of the rectangle, we compose and solve the equation.
Let’s denote the length of the rectangle using the variable x cm, then the width can be denoted as (x – 6) cm.
Perimeter of the rectangle:
P = 2 (a + b);
2 (x + x – 6) = 32;
2x – 6 = 16;
2x = 16 + 6;
2x = 32;
x = 32: 2;
x = 16 cm is the length of the rectangle, then the width of the rectangle is 16 – 6 = 10 cm.
Answer: 16 cm; 10 cm.
