The perimeter of the rectangle is 34cm and one of its sides is 5cm. Find the diagonal of the rectangle

1. A, B, C, D – the vertices of the rectangle. P is the perimeter. VD – diagonal. AB – 5 centimeters.

2. Considering that the sides of the rectangle located opposite each other (opposite) are equal, the perimeter of this geometric figure is calculated by the formula:

P = 2 (AD + AB) = 34 centimeters.

AD + AB = 17 centimeters.

AD = 17 – 5 = 12 centimeters.

3. ВD = √AD² + AB² (by the Pythagorean theorem.)

BD = √12² + 5² = √144 + 25 = √169 = 13 centimeters.

Answer: diagonal: BD = 13 centimeters.
