| It is known from the condition that the perimeter of the rectangle is 36 cm. It is also known that its length is 2 times greater than the width. In order to find the area of a rectangle, we first find the length and width of the rectangle.
Let’s denote the width of the rectangle with the variable x cm, then the length can be written as 2x cm.
Formula for finding the perimeter of a rectangle:
P = 2 (a + b);
2 (x + 2x) = 36;
3x = 36: 2;
3x = 18;
x = 18: 3;
x = 6 cm width, length 6 * 2 = 12 cm.
We look for the area of the rectangle by the formula:
S = a * b = 6 * 12 = 72 cm.
