| The perimeter is the sum of the lengths of the sides of the shape. A rectangle has two pairs of two sides that are equal and parallel to each other. The perimeter of the rectangle is: P = a + a + b + b = 2 (a + b)
Let’s write down the condition of the task
a + a + b + b = 36
a + a + b = 25
Subtract the second from the first equation and get:
b = 36-25 = 9
Subtract this b from the second equation and divide by 2 to find a
25-9 = 16
a + a = 16
a = 16/2 = 8
The area of a rectangle is the product of two adjacent sides on top of each other. The area of the rectangle is:
S = a * b
S = 9 * 8 = 72 cm square.
