1. Find the second side of the rectangle by the formula a = P / 2 – b, where a and b are adjacent sides of a rectangle with a perimeter P:

a = 40/2 – 5 = 20 – 5 = 15 cm.

2. Find the product of the adjacent sides of the rectangle, get its area:

15 cm * 5 cm = 75 cm2.

Answer: the area of the rectangle is 75 cm2.
