The perimeter of the rectangle is 46 cm, find the sides of the rectangle if one of them is 3 cm larger than the other.

1. A, B, C, D – the vertices of the rectangle. P is the perimeter.
2. By the condition of the problem, one side is 3 cm larger than the other. Let’s say that blood pressure is 3 cm larger than AB.
AD = AB + 3 cm.
3. To calculate the lengths of the sides of the rectangle, we use the formula for calculating its perimeter:
P = 2AD + 2AВ = 46 cm.
AD+ AB = 23 cm.Substitute here (AB + 3) instead of AD:
AB + 3 + AB = 23 cm.
2AB = 20 cm.
AB = 10 cm.
AD = 10 + 3 = 13 cm.
Answer: the sides of the rectangle are AD = BC = 13 cm, AB = СD = 10 cm.
