The perimeter is the sum of all sides. For a rectangle, it is calculated by the formula:
P = 2a + 2b.
Provided that P = 50 cm, and the width is 5 cm, we express the length:
a = (P – 2b): 2.
Substitute the values from the condition:
a = (50 – 2 * 5): 2 = (50 – 10): 2 = 40: 2 = 20 cm.
