The required length of the second side of the rectangle is determined using the conditional variable “Y”.
Using the information of the problem and taking into account the formula for the perimeter of the rectangle, we will compose the equation: Y + Y + 30 + 30 = 80.
As a result of solving the equation, we will have the value 2Y + 60 = 80 or 2Y = 80 – 60 = 20 or Y = 20/2 = 10 centimeters.
Answer: 10 centimeters.
