| A rectangle is a quadrilateral in which all corners are straight.
The perimeter of a rectangle is the sum of the lengths of all sides.
P = (a + b) * 2.
Algebraic method for solving the problem.
The length of one side of the rectangle is x cm,
then the length of the other side of the rectangle is x + 4 cm,
by the condition of the problem, the perimeter of the rectangle is 80 cm.
We get the equation:
(x + x + 4) * 2 = 80;
2 * x + 4 = 80: 2;
2 * x = 40 – 4;
x = 36: 2;
x = 18 (cm) the length of one side of the rectangle;
x + 4 = 18 + 4 = 22 (cm) the length of the other side of the rectangle.
Answer: 18 cm and 22 cm.
