It follows from the condition of the problem that the given triangle is isosceles, since its two sides are equal (AB = CA).
Recall that the perimeter of a triangle (P) is equal to the sum of the lengths of its sides:
P = AB + BC + CA.
The perimeter of an isosceles triangle is:
P = ВС + 2АВ.
From this expression you can find the AB side:
2АВ = P – ВC,
AB = (P – BC) / 2.
We calculate the length of the side AB, knowing that the perimeter of the triangle is P = 62 cm, and the length of the side BC = 17 cm:
AB = (62 – 17) / 2,
AB = 22.5 cm.
Answer: 22.5 cm.
