The perimeter of the triangle is 27.8 cm. One of its sides is 3.5 cm less than the other, but 2.7 cm larger than the third. Find the length of the longer side.

Let the first side of the triangle be x cm, since it is 3.5 cm less than the second side, then the second side is (x + 3.5) cm. Since the first side is 2.7 cm larger than the third side, then the third side is ( x – 2.7) cm.
Let’s compose and solve the equation:
By the condition of the problem, the perimeter of the triangle is 27.8 cm, therefore
x + (x + 3.5) + (x – 2.7) = 27.8;
x + x + 3.5 + x – 2.7 = 27.8;
3x + 0.8 = 27.8;
3x = 27.8 – 0.8;
3x = 27;
