The perimeter of the triangle is 97 cm, but from the sides – a cm, the second b cm. Make up an expression to find the third side. Calculate the length of the third side if a = 32, b = 26.

Let the length of the side ABC in the triangle ABC = x cm. From the condition of the problem it is known that, the perimeter of the triangle P (ΔABS) = 97 cm, one of the sides BC = a cm, the other AC = b cm. Let us compose an expression for finding the third side, knowing that the perimeter P (ΔABS) = AB + BC + AC; AB = P (ΔABS) – (BC + AC) or x = 97 – (a + b). To find the length of the third side, if a = 32, b = 26, substitute the values of the quantities into the calculation formula and perform the calculations:

x = 97 – (32 + 26);

x = 19 (cm) length of side AB.

Answer: 19 cm is the length of the third side.
