The perimeter of the triangle is 98 cm. The length of one side is 26 cm, and the other two sides are the same. What is the length of each of the equal sides?

From the condition it is known that the perimeter of the triangle is 98 cm. We also know that the two sides have the same length. That is, we can say that the triangle is equilateral. And the length of the third side is known – 26 cm.

To calculate the lengths of two identical sides, we construct and solve a linear equation. Let’s denote by x cm the length of one of the unknown sides, so that we can write the equation using the formula for calculating the perimeter:

P = a + b + c;

b = c = x;

98 = 26 + 2x;

2x = 98 – 26;

2x = 72;

x = 36 cm.
