The perimeter of triangle ABC is 50 cm, side AB is 2 cm longer than side BC

The perimeter of triangle ABC is 50 cm, side AB is 2 cm longer than side BC and side AC is 2 times longer than side BC. Find the sides of the triangle.

Because neither side of the triangle is known, we will designate the sides of the triangle through the variable x.

Let side BC = x cm, then AB = (x + 2) cm, AC = 2x cm. The perimeter is the sum of all sides of the triangle. Let’s write the equation:

x + (x + 2) + 2x = 50;

4x = 48;

x = 48: 4;

x = 12 (cm) – BC side.

AB = x + 2 = 12 + 2 = 14 (cm) – AB side;

AC = 2 * x = 2 * 12 = 24 (cm) – AC side.

Answer: 12 cm, 14 cm, 24 cm.
