The perimeter of triangle ABC is 62 cm, BC = 17cm, AB = CA. Find the length of side AB

The perimeter of an arbitrary triangle can be found by summing all its sides:

p = BC + AB + CA.

But since AB = CA, the perimeter expression can be rewritten as follows:

p = BC + AB + AB = BC + 2AB.

We know the values of the perimeter and the length of the aircraft side. Let’s substitute them in this expression:

62 = 17 + 2AB.

Let’s find the value of AB from this equation:

2AB = 62 – 17;

2AB = 45;

AB = 22.5 cm.

Answer: the length of the side AB = 22.5 cm.
