The phase of mitosis, during which the destruction of the nuclear envelope occurs.

Mitosis is a process of indirect cell division, as a result of which the same distribution of chromosomes in daughter nuclei occurs, due to which genetically identical daughter cells appear. This is the most common way of reproduction of eukaryotic cells, one of the fundamental processes of ontogenesis. In plants, due to mitosis, new tissue is formed; in most animals, as a result of mitotic division, the fertilized egg is fragmented and new tissues are formed. Mitosis is divided into phases: prophase, prometaphase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase. The destruction of the nuclear envelope occurs in prophase.
