The plane and the helicopter, having taken off simultaneously from the same airfield to extinguish
The plane and the helicopter, having taken off simultaneously from the same airfield to extinguish a fire located at a distance of 150 km from the airfield, met 30 minutes later, when the plane was already returning to the airfield at a distance of 50 km from the fire. Find helicopter and airplane speeds.
1. Distance from the airfield to the fire site: Sn = 150 km;
2. The meeting took place at a distance from the fire site: Sb = 50 km;
3. The flight time before the meeting is equal to: Tb = 0.5 hours;
4. Distance, which the plane flew: Sc = Sn + Sm = 150 + 50 = 200 km;
5. Its speed is equal to: Vc = Sc / Tb = 200 / 0.5 = 400 km / h;
6. The helicopter flew the distance: Sb = Sn – Sm = 150 – 50 = 100 km;
7. The speed of the helicopter is equal to: Vb = Sb / Tb = 100 / 0.5 = 200 km / h.
Answer: aircraft speed 400 km / h, helicopter speed 200 km / h.
