Colonies were called states that, for many reasons, could not realize themselves, free themselves from the oppression of the metropolises. Such countries fell into dependence and became raw material appendages and markets for especially developed countries. Their position changed after the First World War. Many of them received complete independence from the major powers that were engulfed in war. So the countries of the old world were rapidly getting rid of the colonies, because they could not ensure order in them after the destruction in their own states.
