The pyrimeter of a rectangle is 11dm 4cm, and the length of one side of it is 3dm 2cm. Find the length of the second side of this rectangle.

Given:

P = 11 dm 4 cm,

1 side – 3 dm 2 cm.

Find: 2nd side.

We translate all measurement values into one – see:

1 dm = 10 cm,

11 dm 4 cm = 11 * 10 + 4 = 114 cm,

3 dm 2 cm = 3 * 10 + 2 = 32 cm.

You need to know the side of the rectangle by knowing the perimeter and the other side. Substitute the existing values into the formula for finding the perimeter:

P = 2 * (a + b), where a, b are the sides of the rectangle.

114 = 2 * (32 + b), get rid of the parentheses, dividing by two:
