So, from the condition it is known that one of the sides of the rectangle is 3 m longer than the second, and its perimeter is 24 m.

The opposite sides of the rectangle are equal to each other. That is, the length of one pair of sides is denoted by x cm, then the length of the second pair of sides is written as (x – 3) cm.

P = 2 (a + b);

2 (x + (x – 3)) = 24;

x + x – 3 = 24: 2;

2x – 3 = 12;

2x = 12 + 3;

2x = 15;

x = 15: 2;

x = 7.5 cm is the length of one side of the rectangle, then 7.5 – 3 = 4.5 cm is the length of the second side.
