The key reason for the creation of the Slavic alphabet has a religious direction. Cyril and Methodius created the alphabet in order to be able to translate the Holy Scriptures into a language understandable and known to the Slavic people. The previously used Greek and Latin languages did not contain all the letters required for translation.
