The rectangle has one side 17 cm 4mm, and the other 12 cm 6mm longer. Find the area of a rectangle.

1. Find the length of the rectangle – it is 12 cm 6 mm more than the width:

17 cm 4 mm + 12 cm 6 mm = 29 cm 10 mm = 30 cm = 300 mm

2. We translate the value of the width into millimeters: 174 mm (1 cm = 10 mm)

3. The area of the rectangle – the length is multiplied by the width:

300 mm x 174 mm = 52,200 mm2 = 522 cm2 (1 cm2 = 100 mm2)

Answer: 522 cm2.
