| 1. Let’s say that the width of the rectangle is x cm.
2. The length of the rectangle is 25% greater than its width, so we find 25% of the width of the rectangle.
x / 100 * 25 = x * 0.25 = 0.25x.
3. The length of the rectangle will be (x + 0.25x) cm.
4. Let’s make an equation and find out what the width of the rectangle is if it is known that the perimeter of this rectangle is 54 cm.
x + x + (x + 0.25x) + (x + 0.25x) = 54;
x + x + x + 0.25x + x + 0.25x = 54;
4.5x = 54;
x = 54 / 4.5;
x = 12 cm.
5. Find out what the length of the rectangle is.
12 + 12 * 0.25 = 12 + 3 = 15 cm.
6. Let’s calculate the area.
12 * 15 = 180 cm ^ 2.
Answer: The area of the rectangle is 180 cm ^ 2.
