The relationship between the states-general and the French kings.

The states-general were created in 13th century France in order to maintain order in government. The members of the States-General included nobles and representatives from the people. But relations between kings and states in France were not always favorable. The monarchs constantly sought to limit the powers of the state-general in order to expand their capabilities. This often resulted in the government independently enacting laws and administering the country’s budget without the consent of the state’s limiting authority.
