The result of the aggressive policy of Rome was the creation of a huge empire, unique in size for the beginning of our era. From Portugal in the west to Mesopotamia in the east, from southern Egypt, central Morocco and Tunisia in the south to England in the north (Roman ramparts survived just south of the border with Scotland), the eastern border in Europe ran along the Danube and Rhine, behind them lived Germanic tribes. Part of southern Romania (Dacia), Crimea, the Black Sea coast and all the islands of the Mediterranean were under the control of the Romans.
In 395, the empire was divided into eastern and western, the border was drawn along the Adriatic Sea.
