The first ruler of the Indian Empire was Chandragupta Maurya. Before dying, he renounced his throne. Ashoka Maurya came to power. During his reign, the empire grew stronger and flourished. The last ruler of the Mauryan empire was killed by the military leader Shunga, who declared himself the founder of the new government. His reign was short. For a long time, the Greeks ruled India. The Greek Empire was overthrown by the Scythians, the Indo-Scythian kingdom was formed, which overthrew the Kushan kingdom. This empire ruled until the beginning of the third century of the new era, and then disintegrated. The “golden age” of the Indian empire has come – the rule of the Gupta dynasty.
