Since the triangle is equilateral, the height BD divides the base of the AC in half.
Then AD = AC / 2 = 16/2 = 8.
Consider a right-angled triangle ABD and by the Pythagorean theorem AB² = AD² + BD².
Then BD² = AB² – AD² = 17² – 8² = 289 – 64 = 225.
BD = √225 = 15.
Answer: Height BD is 15 cm.
