The side of the dacha plot is square 20 m. A fifth of the area of this plot is occupied by buildings, on the third part of it are planted vegetables, and on the rest of the area – fruit trees. What is the area covered by fruit trees?
The area of the square is calculated by the formula:
S = a² = a * a,
where S is the area of the square, a is the side of the square.
1) 20² = 20 * 20 = 400 (sq. M) area of the entire plot.
To find the fractional part of a number, you need to multiply the number by the fraction representing the part.
2) 400 * 1/5 = 400/5 = 80 (sq. M) building area.
3) 400 * 1/3 = 400/3 = 133 (1/3) (m2) area with planted vegetables.
4) 400 – 80 – 133 (1/3) = 320 – 133 (1/3) = 187 – 1/3 = 186 (2/3) (sqm) area planted with fruit trees.
186 (2/3) – one hundred eighty six and two thirds.
