| Let x cm be the two smaller sides of the rectangle, that is, x cm are two widths.
Let x + 13 cm be the two lengths of the rectangle.
Let’s make the equation:
x + x + 13 = 68;
2 x + 13 = 68;
2 x = 68 – 13;
2 x = 55;
x = 55: 2;
x = 27.5 cm two widths.
27.5: 2 = 13.75 cm width.
27.5 + 13 = 40.5 cm two lengths.
40.5: 2 = 20.25 cm length.
We check:
P = 2 * (13.75 + 20.25);
P = 2 * 34;
P = 68 cm.
Answer: One side is 13.75 cm, the other is 20.25 cm.
