The side of the square is 7cm. Find the sides of a rectangle with the same perimeter if you know that one side of the rectangle is 2cm larger than the other. Calculate the area of the rectangle.

1) Let’s find out what perimeter a square with a side of 7 cm has.

7 * 4 = 28 cm.

2) We find out how long one of the sides of the rectangle is, if it is known that its perimeter was 28 cm, and one side is 2 cm larger than the other.We compose an equation where:

X is one side of the rectangle.

X – 2 – the second side.

28 – perimeter.

28 = (X + X – 2) * 2;

28 = 2X + 2X – 4;

-2X – 2X = -4 – 28;

-4X = -32;

X = 32/4;

X = 8 cm.

3) Find out the length of the second side.

8 – 2 = 6 cm.

Answer: The rectangle has sides with a length of 8 cm and 6 cm.
