| The sides of the parallelogram are proportional to the numbers 2 and 3, find the smaller side if the parallelogram perimeter is 50cm.
1. The tops of the parallelogram – A, B, C, D. Perimeter (P) = 50 centimeters. AB / AD = 2/3.
2. By the condition of the problem AB / AD = 2/3. Therefore, AD = 3AB / 2.
3. P = 2 (AB + AD) = 50 centimeters.
AB + AD = 25 centimeters.
4. Substitute in this expression 3AB / 2 instead of AD:
AB + 3AB / 2 = 25 centimeters.
5AB = 50 centimeters.
AB – 10 centimeters.
AD = 10 x 3/2 = 15 centimeters.
Answer: the smaller sides of the parallelogram are AB = CD = 10 centimeters.
