The southernmost point of our planet.

The most extreme southern point of our planet can rightfully be considered the continent of Antarctica – the South Pole of the Earth. Antarctica was discovered later than other continents – on January 27, 1820, by Russian navigators Thaddeus Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev. The first to reach the South Pole was the Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen on December 14, 1911, who later also reached the North Pole of the globe.
