The sum of the two sides of the triangle – the larger and the smaller – is 4.5 dm, and its sides are proportional to the numbers 2.4 and 5. What is the perimeter of this triangle?

1. Let X dm be some quantity such that (2 * X) dm is the smaller side of the triangle.

It is known that the sides are proportional to the numbers 2, 4, 5.

Then the middle side is equal to (4 * X) dm.

The large side is defined as (5 * X) dm.

Let’s find an expression for recording the perimeter of a triangle.

2 * X + 4 * X + 5 * X = (11 * X) dm.

2. By the condition of the problem, the sum of the smaller and larger sides is 4.5 dm.

2 * X + 5 * X = 4.5

7 * X = 4.5.

X = 4.5 / 7 = 45/70 dm = 9/14 dm.

3. Let’s calculate the perimeter.

11 * X = 11 * 9/14 = 99/14 = 7 1/14 dm.

Answer: The perimeter of the triangle is 7 1/14 in.
