The template for the biosynthesis of new DNA during replication is the existing DNA molecule. And what should be the template for the biosynthesis of a protein?
The protein is synthesized in ribosomes, in the endoplasmic reticulum system (reticulum). To deliver the matrix code from the nucleus to the ribosomes, messenger RNA exists. It is synthesized complementary to the sequence of a specific region of DNA, the locus that encodes the desired protein. Then protein is “collected” in ribosomes along it.
Thus, the information matrix for protein synthesis is DNA. It encodes information about the protein. And the immediate, physical matrix is informational RNA, complementary to it, a protein is synthesized on the ribosomes.
