F = 10 kN = 10000 Newton – the force that the tractor applies when pulling the plow;
s = 1200 meters – the path traveled by the tractor during the time interval t;
t = 10 minutes = 600 seconds – time span.
It is required to determine W (Watt) – the power developed by the tractor.
Let’s find the work that the tractor does:
A = F * s = 10000 * 1200 = 12,000,000 Joules.
Then the power developed by the tractor engine will be equal to:
W = A / t = 12,000,000 / 600 = 120,000 / 6 = 20,000 Watts = 20 kW.
Answer: the tractor engine develops a power equal to 20 kW.
