The transition to the Iron Age took place between the 13th and 12th centuries BC. It also marked the end of the Bronze Age, when all tools and weapons were made of copper. Iron, as such, had better characteristics than soft metals, but was more demanding in processing (higher melting temperature). The emergence of a new metal made it possible to make strong and reliable tools, we can say that the processing of iron became a kind of technological revolution in the ancient world. True, iron also began to be used to the full for the manufacture of weapons, and therefore, many ancient states disappeared forever in the wars of conquest.
