The two boats were moving at the same speed. The first boat sailed 120 km, the second – 135 km.

The two boats were moving at the same speed. The first boat sailed 120 km, the second – 135 km. At what speed did each boat move if the first of them was on the way 30 minutes less than the second?

Let’s determine how many kilometers the distance that the second boat sailed:

135 – 120 = 15 (km).

Since the boats moved at the same speeds and the second boat stayed half an hour longer on the way than the first, then, obviously, the second boat covered 15 km in half an hour. Let’s find the speed of the second boat:

15 / 0.5 = 30 (km / h).

The speed of the first boat is the same as that of the second, which means that it also moved at a speed of 30 km / h.

Answer: the speed of both boats is 30 km / h.
