The two rectangles have the same area. the length of the first is 16 mm, the second is 12 mm. Find the width of the first rectangle if the perimeter of the second is 32 mm.
1. The perimeter of a rectangle is the sum of the length and width times two. Determine the width of the second rectangle.
(x + 12) * 2 = 32;
2x + 24 = 32;
2x = 8;
x = 8/2 = 4;
Width 4 mm.
2. Let’s calculate what is its area.
12 * 4 = 48 mm².
3. Find out the width of the first.
48/16 = 3 millimeters.
