| The voltage across the rheostat is 120 V, its resistance is 500 ohms. Determine the amount of heat released in the rheostat in 2 minutes.
According to the Joule-Lenz law, the amount of heat that is released on the rheostat can be calculated using the formula:
Q = U ^ 2 * t / R, where U is the voltage across the rheostat (U = 120 V), t is the current flow time (t = 2 min = 2 * 60 s = 120 s), R is the resistance of the rheostat (R = 500 Ohm).
Let’s calculate the amount of heat:
Q = U ^ 2 * t / R = (120 ^ 2) * 120/500 = 3456 J.
Answer: Heat will be released on the rheostat in the amount of 3456 J.
