| The volume of ammonia, which is released when calcium hydroxide interacts with 80 g of ammonium nitrate, if the gas yield is 80% of the theoretically possible.
This reaction proceeds according to the following chemical reaction equation:
2NH4NO3 + Ca (OH) 2 = 2NH3 + Ca (NO3) 2 + 2H2O;
Find the chemical amount of calcium hydroxide. For this purpose, we divide its weight by its molar mass.
M Ca (OH) 2 = 40 + 17 x 2 = 74 grams / mol;
N Ca (OH) 2 = 80/74 = 1.081 mol;
During the reaction, 1.081 x 2 = 2.162 mol of ammonia will be released.
Let’s define its volume.
To do this, multiply the amount of substance by the standard volume of 1 mole of gas (filling 22.40 liters)
V NH3 = 2.162 x 22.4 = 8.173 liters;
