The volume of carbon dioxide formed during the combustion of 5 liters of propane

Given:
V (C3H8) = 5 l.
interaction of C3H8 with O2 with the formation of CO2 (IV) and H2O;
Find: V (CO2) -?
Solution:
1) Let’s write the reaction equation:
C3H8 + 5O2 = 3CO2 + 4H2O;
From the reaction – 3 mol of CO2 is consumed per 1 mol of C3H8;
2) Find v (C3H8), v (C3H8) = 5 L / 22.4 L / mol = 0.22 mol.
Since v (C3H8): v (CO2) = 1: 3, then v (CO2) = 3 * v (C3H8) = 3 * 0.22 = 0.66 mol;
4) According to Avogadro’s law, the molar volume for gaseous substances is 22.4 l / mol:
V (CO2) = v (CO2) * Vm;
V (CO2) = 22.4 l / mol * 0.66 mol = 14.784 l.
