Thus, de facto two states appeared: the United States and the CSA (Confederate States of America). The main stumbling blocks were taxes and slavery. The conflict itself began in April 1861, and officially ended on May 9, 1865, but military clashes at sea continued until the end of June. The victory went to the “Yankees” – as the southerners called their opponents. They themselves were called “Dixie” and their land “Dixieland”. After the defeat of the South, the period of its Reconstruction began as part of the United States.
